Machynlleth City of Sanctuary is part of the UK wide City of Sanctuary project and The Wales Nation of Sanctuary Project. We are part of Mid Wales Refugee Action.

We organise events in the local area on issues such as a training course on destitution and refugee rights.

We participate in demonstrations and actions to shut down detention centres.
We support nationwide campaigns to defend the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Wales and further afield.

We have work with local schools in raising awareness about issues affecting displaced people.

To date we have raised over £11,000 through fundraising and awareness raising events including clothes swaps, film nights, market stalls, roller discos. Recently arrived displaced people have attended and spoken at the events. All of the money has gone directly to supporting displaced people.
We attend and have fund raised for weekly Tai Chi classes for recently arrived women with refugee status and are looking at supplying an activity for ‘men’ for example weekly football or a monthly mountain hike.

We organise the collection of donations to be taken to Calais and Dunkirk to support people seeking safety there.

We organise regular trips to Northern France to volunteer with kitchens and distributions.

We send regular press releases and write articles for local papers
We our actively reaching out to our local council and businesses to support our bid to become a town of sanctuary
